Statement
My artwork is an investigation of the world around me – the people, places and things I see and feel. Every painting is a new experience; when I paint, it is like I am seeing something for the first time. I enjoy exploring the paint and its idiosyncrasies, and I learn something with each creation.
I am not merely a “portrait” or “landscape” artist; although I am doing series, I enjoy the myriad of subject matter life provides and always look forward to what is next. Currently, my series include farm animals, historical jazz performers, airplanes, and cityscapes.
I believe art can be reachable and understood on many levels and by people of all kinds. It pleases me greatly when someone who knows “nothing about art” is touched by one of my pieces. There is something beautiful in the cycle that is created, when I am inspired by something I see, and in turn create an image that evokes a similar response in a viewer… to me, that completes art. It is the only reason for art; without that final response, I would find painting hopelessly unfulfilling.
